Installation of reinforced industrial modular ducting for NMP gas extraction in a lithium battery factory in Greece

At ROS Group, we continue to provide high-quality solutions for highly demanding industrial sectors such as lithium-ion battery manufacturing for the automotive industry.

A few months ago, ROS DUCTING supplied nearly 150 metres of reinforced industrial modular ducting in AISI 304 stainless steel for an air extraction and conveying system handling NMP gases (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone) in a battery plant located in Greece.

NMP is a solvent widely used in lithium battery manufacturing. During the production process, this compound can volatilise and generate industrial vapours or gases that must be safely captured and conveyed through airtight, corrosion-resistant industrial extraction systems, ensuring both operator safety and environmental compliance.

Reinforced stainless-steel ducting for corrosive gases and high temperatures

Our customer selected this reinforced industrial modular ducting system mainly due to two key technical requirements:

- Maximum system airtightness

- High chemical and corrosion resistance

Due to the presence of vaporised NMP in the conveyed air, it was essential to use materials with excellent resistance to aggressive chemical agents. For this reason, AISI 304 stainless steel ducting was selected together with PTFE gaskets, ensuring virtually complete airtightness and preventing any potential leakage of NMP gases.

In addition, the installation operates at temperatures of up to 140°C, as the air comes from drying processes in an industrial oven. This is combined with high operating underpressure, reaching 4,000 Pa, due to multiple filtration stages required before air discharge.

To withstand these conditions, reinforced sheet thicknesses of 1.00 mm and 1.20 mm were used.

Industrial extraction system with motorised throttle valves and special accessories

To balance airflow between the different filtration systems, motorised throttle valves from ø400 to ø800 mm were installed, allowing automatic flow regulation and operation under different modes, including emergency conditions.

The installation diameters range from ø150 mm to ø800 mm. To adapt to the technical requirements and available plant space, various industrial modular ducting accessories were used, including:

- Segmented bends R1D and R2D

- Branch connections

- Telescopic pipes

- Biconical cap ø800

- Silicone vibration compensators. These compensators prevent vibration transmission from equipment such as industrial filters or fans into the ducting network.

Reinforced support system for high-pressure installations

To ensure mechanical stability, reinforced pipe clamps fixed to a steel structure were installed, together with reinforcement flanges on large-diameter sections and throttle valves, especially in high-pressure zones.

Advantages of reinforced industrial modular ducting

Reinforced industrial modular ducting offers multiple advantages compared to traditional welded systems:

- Fast and easy installation

- Reduced installation costs

- Lower labour requirements

- Easy maintenance and dismantling

- Future expansion or modification capability

- Excellent airtightness

- High mechanical and chemical resistance

This solution is particularly suitable for industrial extraction, ventilation and pneumatic conveying systems in sectors such as batteries, chemicals, recycling, food, pharmaceuticals and metallurgy.

Specialists in industrial modular ducting since 1867

Since 1867, ROS Group has specialised in the manufacture of industrial modular ducting and accessories in galvanised, stainless and polished steel, using both traditional and modular joining systems.

In addition to a wide stock of standard products, our technical team provides support and tailored advice for industrial extraction, ventilation and pneumatic conveying projects. We also provide a digital library of components in 2D, 3D and BIM formats to support design in AutoCAD, SolidWorks and similar software.
